Everyday life...

Up

Here are a few pictures of our environment and everyday life in San Diego and Del Mar.

Almost everyday : 'pic-nics' on the beach !
Everyday, it's essentially the lab at the Salk Institute and the famous courtyard facing incredible sunsets.
Almost everyday at the bottom of our street: beautiful Pacific Ocean waves !
You can almost see them from our apartment...
... at least between October and February you can't miss the sunset (picture taken early January 2003 from our balcony)
Too big for surfing in Del Mar... but what a show !

Quite hard to live without a car here... We took the smallest we found: a Chevy tracker...

... and this is our complex with everything you need...
... especially the Ocean nearby ! We were leaving in Del Mar, the beach here is protected from the cars (and tourists) by a small sand cliff.
Here are the cliffs and the waves.
Del Mar is a nice place -almost a village- in the North of San Diego. Lot's of flowers and surfers, lot's of money too, but people stay simple. On a board everybody is equal for the waves.
Nice wave !
Here is me and my board in Del Mar of course. I spend a lot of time with dolphins and pelicans waiting for the good wave, more than I spend 'on the board' really.
San Diego Bay, a fabulous sailing area right downtown.
San Diego has almost no history (with respect to our Old Europe), but the first buildings are kept religiously.
Downtown San Diego from Harbor Island.
One has to work from time to time. Here is my working place: the Salk Institute. The architecture is radical and very prone to reflexion /reflection.
... no, this is not a swimming pool, just the terrasse for lunch at the Salk Institute.
In case the experiments don't work, you can just head down the cliffs with your board to Black's beach below.
San Diego is also famous for its zoo...
... and its sunsets over the Pacific Ocean.
Thanks for travelling with us !

Take care !
